Ibiza Municipal Village Santa Gertrudis, Spain

Perhaps it's this pretty village's central location, but Santa Gertrudis is rapidly becoming the place to see in Ibiza. Since the church square was pedestrianised last winter, cafe culture has reached new heights here, with arguably more eateries per head that even the most bistro-fabulous streets of Paris.

A number of quirky and enticing shops have also sprung up over recent years to both the ever-escalating passing trade and discerning locals. Several of the island's faces, movers and shakers have also taken up residence in Santa Gertrudis of late, a development which has seen it dubbed "Ibiza's answer to Primrose Hill". Wife swapping and swishing about in caftans is strictly optional.

The excellent tempura is a must-try, as are the inventive salads and sushi rolls. and as for the decision between saki and hierbas - we went for both, and it worked just fine.
